Embracing Freedom on the Road: Our Journey of Adventure and Community

Living a life untethered to one place is a dream many hold, but few take the leap to make it real. Rich and Kathi did just that. After retiring early at 51 and 50, they sold everything to embrace a debt-free life filled with adventure. Now, as they begin their eighth year on the road, they share their story to inspire others and connect with new followers.

A Life Without Borders

Originally from Maine, Rich and Kathi now call wherever they park their rig home. Their travels have taken them across the country, and this summer they are exploring California, Oregon, and Washington. amoung other adventures.

Their lifestyle is a blend of work, volunteering, and exploration. They have work camped at campgrounds and resorts, volunteered with groups like NOMADs, and Habitat for Humanity, and even worked the sugar beet harvest in Michigan, North Dakota, and Idaho. These experiences have enriched their journey and connected them with communities along the way.

Traveling with Purpose and Simplicity

Rich and Kathi travel in a 25-foot Class C Winnebago Access. It has no slides but offers enough space and storage for their needs. Their rig is simple and self-sufficient, equipped with solar panels and a composting toilet. They tow a Jeep, which provides extra storage and mobility once they set up camp.

They prefer boondocking and stays through Harvest Hosts or Boondockers Welcome over traditional campgrounds. This choice fits their love for small towns and authentic experiences rather than tourist-heavy spots. They also use Trusted Housesitters to find pet-sitting gigs that allow them to stay in unique places, including several in the UK and Europe.

Balancing Adventure and Community

Their days are filled with outdoor activities like hiking, e-biking, and just exploring. They chase sunshine and happy hours, often meeting friends and family during their travels. Brewery visits are a favorite way to relax and connect with locals.

Community plays a big role in their journey. Volunteering and work camping have introduced them to like-minded people and new friendships. Their travels are not just about seeing new places but about building connections and sharing experiences.
