Birthdays in the Big Apple!

Writer's picture: AdventuRetiredAdventuRetired

Happy Birthday to us!!! Yes, it happens every year! We celebrated our birthdays just three days apart with another great adventure! This time New York City! This new tradition (it is now a tradition if we have done it twice, right?) is a fun time for us both! We believe every year should be celebrated in retirement as so many of our friends and family didn't get this experience. Our retirement motto of "don't sit too soon" is what motivates us! Have you visited NYC? This episode is all about THE BIG APPLE and all the fun times we had there. Happy Birthday Curt! PS ... I'm still the boss because I'm three days older!

Show Notes

00:38 A life lesson from Curt's book Fix the Problem and Other Life Lessons from a Pragmatic Dad. You can find it here: https://www.amazon.com/Fix-Problem-other-Lessons-Pragmatic/dp/1091400830/ref=tmm_pap_swatch_0?_encoding=UTF8&qid=&sr=

03:11 Don't be afraid to tell the flight attendants that you are celebrating a special day! You might score a free drink!

03:55 We stayed at the Millennium Times Square. We loved this hotel, our beautiful corner room, and the proximity to all of Times Square fun!

05:26 We highly recommend seeing at least one or two Broadway shows! We chose to see the iconic Lion King and the new show Shucked! Fantastic! Pay up and get the best seats possible. It is so worth the money!

08:37 We used the Hop On Hop Off bus system to get around the city! This is the company you used: https://www.topviewnyc.com/ Weekend times get very busy! Plan ahead.

10:11 Central Park is a wonderful escape in the city. Learn about the special parts of this historical park here: https://www.centralpark.com/ Visiting Central Park on the weekend is not as ideal as the weekday. Plan for huge crowds.

12:28 Hop On and Hop Off bus has a free ferry ride to Liberty Island to view the Statue of Liberty from the water. If you want to get off on the island take the FREE city ferry.

12:42 Take the Hop On and Hop Off Night Tour! Get in line early! Beautiful city lights!

14:58 One of our favorite stops was the Other Half Brewery. https://otherhalfbrewing.com/location/rockefeller-center/

16:37 911Memorial and Museum are must sees! https://www.911memorial.org/

18:09 Wall Street is always fun to see and walk around. https://www.nyse.com/index

18:50 The Highline Park is a wonderful experience! The beautiful park has beautiful plants and views! Go one the week day...not a Saturday or Sunday as it is packed!

20:14 Head from the Highline Park to The Edge! https://www.edgenyc.com/en

21:33 The New York Library is a great stop! We saw the amazing original Winnie the Pooh and Friends exhibit. https://www.nypl.org/about/locations/schwarzman/childrens-center-42nd-street/pooh

21:52 New York food is talked about here.
